<h3 style=\"color: Red; text-align: center;\">How Jordyalan Border Collies was born.</h3> <img alt=\"\" src=\"file:///C:/DOCUME~1/Tony/LOCALS~1/Temp/moz-screenshot-3.jpg\" />   I thought that I would take this opportunity to write to you today to share with you my story.<o:p></o:p>  <o:p></o:p> My story started in April 1995; this was when I added a beautiful Black and White male Border Collie puppy to my family. His name was Coop, and he was the start of my addiction to the Border Collie breed. Coop was a fantastic puppy and he grew into the most intelligent dog you could ever meet.  But fate was to set in though, and Coop only lived to 2 years old. This was due to a horrific accident when he was out on his morning run with his dad.  They were struck down by a hit-run driver and Coop was dragged 200 meters up the road and died instantly.  His Dad was badly shaken but was ok; it was an extremely traumatic thing for him to have to go through though.  Our family was distraught and it took such a long time to heal the wounds in our hearts. <o:p></o:p> I had fallen so much in love with Coop\'s temperament that I had already ordered another puppy from the same breeder before the accident happened.  So we decided as a family that we just had to still take him, especially since he was from the same bloodlines and we called him Topper.<o:p></o:p> Topper was Coop\'s nephew and he joined our family helping heal the grief of losing his uncle, making it just a little bit easier to get through.  So as time passed and our Topper matured and he turned into such an adorable dog, it only made me realize even more that what I really wanted to do with my life was to start breeding and showing Border Collies.  <o:p></o:p>  <o:p></o:p> Yet another curve ball came though in 1999 when I was diagnosed with Mitochondrial Cytopathy (a Muscular Dystrophy).  This is a non curable and non treatable muscle disease, so my life as I knew it was gone forever.<o:p></o:p>  <o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> As my disease progressed and my marriage collapsed because of it, my children and I knew that if I was ever going to fulfill my dreams I was going to have to do it on my own.<o:p></o:p> But fate once again stepped in, and in early 2004 a wonderful new man entered my life and we married that September.<o:p></o:p> Even though with him knowing fully well what the future would hold for me with my disease, he made it very clear that we would get through it together and my dreams could still come true.<o:p></o:p>  <o:p></o:p> So as my birthday present in 2004, I was given an adorable female black/white Border Collie puppy from my new husband, and I called her <st1:place w:st=\"on\">Coco</st1:place>.  She was to start my dream off he said, and so Jordyalan Kennels was born.  Coco had three litters of puppies, having produced 21 adorable and perfectly marked black/white babies over her three and a half years as our Dam.  <st1:place w:st=\"on\">Coco</st1:place> has now been retired to the couch!!.<o:p></o:p> Our beautiful Topper passed away on the 22nd November 2005, and was nine and a quarter years old.  He was absolutely a Border Collie with a personality that astounded everyone!!. He is so greatly missed every single day.  <o:p></o:p>  <o:p></o:p> We then purchased a Blue/white male Border Collie called Bert in late 2005, who is our stud dog here at Jordyalan.  He sired two of <st1:place w:st=\"on\">Coco</st1:place>\'s litters for us, and is now looking forward to many more with some new girlfriends!!.  Bert is an absolutely wonderful boy, and he knows that if I am really in pain and need to stay in bed sometimes, he just settles down for a day in front of the TV. He then watches over me until his Dad comes home from work!!  (My very own companion dog).<o:p></o:p>  <o:p></o:p> In December 2007 even though I know I am getting worse, we decided to get a new Dam for our kennel now that <st1:place w:st=\"on\">Coco</st1:place> is retired.  I know that I have wonderful family and friends around me that are there to help out, and no-one wants me give up on my dreams.  So I took possession of the cutest little chocolate/white Border Collie puppy I had ever seen, and I called her Elsa. <o:p></o:p>  <o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Now in 2008 as the severe muscle pain and lethargy is progressing at a fast rate, and my mobility has been severely affected.  I can sit back in my wheelchair at any outing or event, and watch my husband or friend running my dogs around at an obedience trial or a dog show.  And I can still feel just as involved as ever, even if someone else has to be my legs!!  I truly feel blessed to have been able to fulfill my dreams, despite having such a severe disability.<o:p></o:p>   It is with no doubt at all that I can say, my dogs truly make my life complete.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Wanda Ramsdell<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p>Proud Owner Of<o:p></o:p> Jordyalan Border Collies <o:p></o:p> <h3 style=\"color: Red; text-align: center;\">http://www.jordyalanbordercollies.com </h3>

Poop Eating Dogs - What\'s Going on? Children will often do crazy things because they saw their friends do them first. But once is usually enough. They won\'t jump out of a tree or put their fingers in a candle flame after the first painful experience. Dogs, however, will return to eating dung again and again. Most experts have had to conclude that there\'s more at work than simple imitation. There are times when that includes imitating their least desirable behavior - eating dung. But they do, so there has to be something about it that they like.  This isn\'t all that surprising. Dogs have always been scavengers. They\'ll eat roadkill as readily as their suppers. Old trash, pond muck, and dead sparrows on the lawn are no less appetizing. Dogs start getting hungry whenever they sniff something with a pungent smell, and dung certainly does smell.  <img title=\"bullterrier.jpg\" style=\"float: left; margin: 5px\" height=\"280\" alt=\"bullterrier.jpg\" src=\"http://www.petlibrary.co.uk/images/stories/bullterrier.jpg\" width=\"237\" /> Not all dung tastes the same, of course. Dogs seem to have different preferences. Some are attracted to the stools of deer, cows, or horses. Others will eat the stools of other dogs. And a great many dogs are attracted to cat droppings, possibly because cat foods are very high in protein and the dogs are going after undigested nutrients.  The Attention Factor Dogs, no less than children, crave attention. And they do whatever it takes to get it, including things they know you hate. This probably explains why some dogs only eat dung when their owners are around to watch. It\'s probably the equivalent of a 6-year-old saying a dirty word and then watching for his parents\' reaction. "Look at me," the dog is saying.  Boredom has something to do with it too. Dogs entertain themselves by putting things in their mouths. When not much is happening, they often nose around the yard, picking up sticks and putting them down, even mouthing rocks on occasion. Since they aren\'t offended by the smell or taste of dung, it\'s just another thing for them to pick up, play with, and explore.  Dogs occasionally eat so much dung that they get sick to their stomachs. For the most part, however, it\'s not likely to make them sick - although they may get worms from eating the stools of an infected animal. Their digestive tracts are very forgiving.  The people who live with dogs, however, are less forgiving. For one thing, it\'s an ugly sight that no one wants to watch. There\'s also the fact that dogs who eat dung have heart-stopping bad breath. It takes some serious devotion to get past that!   Poop-Eating Tip: Veterinarians sometimes recommend adding garlic, canned pumpkin, or Accent meat tenderizer to a dung-eating dog\'s food. Assuming that it\'s his own dung that he\'s attracted do, these ingredients may give it a taste he dislikes - although it\'s hard to imagine that anything could make it taste worse than it already does. This isn\'t a perfect solution, but it does work for some dogs.

Before you think I\'m nuts for making such a bold statement let me explain a few things. Many of the things that dogs do are labeled as behavior problems. Most of the things that our dogs do are not behavior problems. If you were walking along a path and your dog picked up a stick and started to chew on it most people think it was no big deal. "Hey look, Junior is chewing on a stick". But when Junior comes home and starts to chew on your expensive oak furniture it becomes a problem. Peeing and pooping is a very normal, natural behavior. Every living creature does it. It becomes a problem when your dog doesn\'t do it in the right area. So my argument is that housetraining is not a behavior problem it is a location problem. Your dog just has to be taught the right place to go. You just need to learn how to communicate to your dog where the right area is and where the wrong areas are. This can be done by keeping a close eye on your dog. You really need to set it up so your dog does not have the opportunity to make a mistake. Using a crate, baby gates to keep your dog with you in the room and keeping a leash on your dog are all ways to help you keep a close eye on your dog. I know that it sounds like a lot of work but it is well worth it. You need to catch your dog in the act. When you catch your dog making a mistake you can quickly bring her outside. When you bring her outside you need to stay her to communicate that she is now going in the right area. One other tip is to put your dog on a schedule. In extreme cases I have brought the dog out every hour. This way you are setting your dog up for success and not failure. Remember - housetraining is like real estate. It\'s all location, location, location.
